The GameGear dock system is similar to GameBoy docks and provides the following features:
- Play GameGear on your TV by connecting it to the dock
- Includes a USB-C power and rechargeable battery system
- Can play using a Bluetooth or Master System controller
This system is made up of two boards. One board is implemented inside the GameGear and is connected to the controls. The other board is connected to the LCD controller and provides composite TV output. The TV output is routed to the new TRRS jack for audio and video signals.
The dock board is powered by an ESP32 processor, which is responsible for controlling the Bluetooth and Master System controllers. The dock's button presses are relayed to the daughter board in the system via I2C protocol. The console is then updated with the new button presses. The media signal is transferred over the 1/4 inch jack and then routed to an HDMI upscaling device.
The dock design is still being worked on, but the hardware and firmware are complete and fully functional.
